I have been quiet online for the last month, because I did some special office work – writing something new. Now it is almost completely finished and I look forward preparing the next city rallyes in Dresden or better scavenger hunts. Many groups of children and students are scheduled already to come to Dresden in March and April and take part in those special guided city tours. The older students (around 14 years old ) study a lot about the Baroque era and therefore also want to get to know the Baroque sights of Dresden. The younger students (around 10 years old) get a good overview during their scavenger hunts or city rallyes. Those guided tours are also available in English. Let’s hope for good weather for the kids and … maybe you are the next ones at our scavenger hunts in Dresden.

Heavenly Splendour. Raffael, Duerer and Gruenewald paint Madonna

Two paintings from the Renaissance ages meet again after 500 years – in Dresden.

The “Sistine Madonna” by Raffael as well as “Madonna di Foligno”, painted by him also, are shown next to each other right now at a special exhibition in the Old Masters Picture Gallery. It is the first time the second mentioned painting left the Vatican and is in good neighbourhood with other great paintings of Madonnas by Duerer, Cranach und Gruenewald, that can be looked at at the museum.

A special Christmas Market in Dresden – Funkelstadt

Reading and hearing a lot about it lately (local newspapers, internet, facebook) and it is opening soon. The “Funkelstadt” (twinkle town) in Dresden is a mixture of Christmas Market, theater, arts and culture for the whole family. It sounds quite exciting and will be open from November 25th till December 30th.

Our famous Christmas Market – Striezelmarkt is of course also on this year again.

Aschenbrödel Fairy Tale in Moritzburg

Aschenbrödel (Cinderella) was a German-Czech X-Mas fairy tale movie filmed in the 1970′s also in Moritzburg.

At our hunting castle Moritzburg there is a special exhibition with original costumes of that movie and reproductions of scenery. You can also watch sequences of the movie here. More info at Märchenschloss Moritzburg (in German and Czech only).

A night at the museum in Dresden

You have the possibility to visit the museums in Dresden usually between 10 am and 6 pm. Now it is also possible to book museum rooms for your next event or to enter the museums after the normal opening hours with your group at the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen.

News from the Dresden Neumarkt square

“Quarter 8″ at our Neumarkt area is getting more and more beautiful.

During my last Dresden walking tours I recognized, that the scaffolding is getting taken off piece by piece at Schlossstraße (street) – directly across the residential palace. This quarter has a historic fassade facing the palace which matches the palace quite well. A five star hotel(Swissôtel) as well as apartments are about to open here in 2012.

Have a look at this construction site during your next visit to Dresden.

The Green Vault Treasury in Dresden

The Historic Green Vault Treasury in Dresden celebrates it’s 5th birthday in September. Therefore the museum offers additional opening days in September and October 2011.
You can book tickets for the following Tuesdays: 13, 20, 27 September and 4 October 2011. The weekend of September 17th and 18th 2011, awaits with many specials to celebrate the anniversary.
